Each year, the UA homecoming queen selects a campus organization to receive support from the Homecoming Queen Endowed Impact Fund, which was established by Cathy Young and Mike Buhai in honor of their daughter Katie, UA’s 2018 Homecoming Queen.
This fund empowers the elected homecoming queen to make a lasting impact on student life at the Capstone.
Homecoming Queen-Led Impact (A History)
Since the 2021 Homecoming Queen, recipients have supported causes ranging from mentorship and healthcare to many other meaningful initiatives.
2021 – McLean Moore
- Campus beneficiary: Al’s Pals, a student mentorship program pairing UA students with local elementary school children.
- Impact: Funded background checks, removing a key barrier to student participation.
2022 – Ellery Hill
- Campus beneficiary: UA Financial Literacy Program and Camellia Center Salary Negotiation for Women presentation.
- Impact: Supported Health Hut outreach and Camellia Center programming to empower students financially and professionally.
2023 – Mae Farmer
- Campus beneficiary: UA Counseling Center and Student Tide Against Suicide.
- Impact: Advanced mental health awareness and suicide prevention efforts on campus.
2024 – Hannah Adams
- Campus beneficiary: UA’s American Cancer Society On Campus
- Impact: Supported student-led cancer advocacy, patient support, and fundraising initiatives

2025 – Morgan Grybowski
- Campus beneficiary: Remote Area Medical (RAM) Chapter
- Impact: Provide free dental, vision and medical care through mobile pop-up clinics in eight remote areas in Alabama
