Lawn Decorations

When and Where

  • Date: November 9 – November 14
  • Time: Must be complete by Friday, November 14 at 10 a.m.
  • Location: In front of the organization’s facility. If no space is available, please contact Director of Lawn Decorations to be assigned a campus location.

Rules

  • Judging will begin Friday, November 15, at 11:30 a.m. Designs must be completed by 10 a.m.
  • Scores will be based evenly on the use of materials, use of theme, creativity, neatness, and overall effect.
  • Winners will be announced during the Pep Rally on Friday, November 15.
  • All lawn decoration sketches of the theme and drawing must be submitted electronically no later than 11:59 p.m. CST on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. These sketches should be as close to the exact design, theme being created, and should include the dimensions and basic structure of the lawn decoration.
  • Frames only may be put up as early as Sunday, November 9 at 8 a.m., but no earlier. Frames must be up by Tuesday, November 12 at 5 p.m.
  • Scaffolding of any kind will not be permitted.
  • Lawn Decorations may be 12 ft. wide by 8 ft. tall, maximum. Any decorations found to be larger or taller than the maximum determination will face disqualification. No Three-Dimensional Figures are permitted. Frames may be smaller– that is at the discretion of the organization (They just must not be bigger).
  • Three Dimensional Figures are not the same thing as layered pomps. If you would like to add “texture” or “dimension” to the lawn decoration, you may layer pomps. If you have questions regarding this, please email the Director of Lawn Decoration.
  • Decorating/preparation can begin Sunday, November 2 at 8 a.m. If decorating of any kind, including paper folding, rolling, etc. is started before this timeframe, a determined number of points will be deducted. If caught pomping again, result may include disqualification.
  • Each organization may use previously rolled pomps. To document and register previously rolled pomp amounts please email Director of Lawn Decorations by November 2. Anything not documented and registered will be deemed unusable.
  • No paper folding or lawn decoration preparation of any type will be allowed from 3 – 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 9 (during the Roll Tide Run).
  • Requiring or hosting organization members for pomping during the hours of 11:59 p.m. – 6 a.m. is prohibited.
  • Lawn decorations must be produced and decorated by the organization(s) that enters them.
  • Organization members are not required to complete all pomps or prep work in the organization’s house or at any other designated location. They are allowed to work from different locations, permitted they are not doing them from 11:59 p.m. – 6 a.m.
  • Lawn decorations designs should reflect the Homecoming theme.
  • Lawn decoration designs and UA Trademarks should not be used in conjunction with: alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, illegal and recreational drugs and drug paraphernalia, gambling products, firearms or other weapons, profanity, sexual acts and sexually oriented goods, items significant cultural meaning or significance, statements or art impugning, disparaging, or including the insignia of any other universities, racist, hateful, demeaning or degrading language or statements, national flags, political symbols, political issues and candidates and/or religious symbols are also prohibited.
  • Decorations not completed by judging time will be disqualified.
  • No mechanical devices may be included in the lawn decoration.
  • No music will be allowed to play in the background.
  • Each organization and all individual members who will be assisting with the Lawn Decoration are required to complete the Participant Registration and Waiver form. This will also include signing the required alcohol contract, whereby the Director of Lawn Decorations, the Director of Rules and Regulations, the Executive Director of Homecoming, and any of their committee members have the right to check any organization’s frame site or pomping location at any time during Homecoming Week for the presence or smell of alcohol. The discovery of alcohol or intoxicated persons working on or in proximity to your lawn decoration will result in immediate organization disqualification.
  • Facility visits will be conducted by the Homecoming Student Board and Lawn Committee throughout the two weeks leading up to judging (November 2 – November 15) to ensure each organization is abiding by the rules and regulations. Specific times for these visits will be communicated with Homecoming chairs. Failure to allow for these visits and inspections will result in a 25-point deduction. Please be courteous to the director and members of the Lawn Committee and allow them to complete their duties.
